Where do we go from here?

So, we had a BOF in Yokohama and we continued it, with somewhat
more success, in the OPS Area open meeting, but I don't think that
we reached any clear consensus about where we want to go from here...

As I said in my OPS area presentation, there seem to be two
different approaches to this problem that have support from some
members of our group:

	- Define a transport and protocol messaging to allow
proprietary (or standard) XML data to be
passed around in a standard way.
	- Define a standard schema for network device configuration
that encompasses a superset of the current SNMP
		data model.

Each of these ideas has some benefits on its own, and they are
not mutually exclusive. In fact, there would be some advantages
to having both...

So, what do we want to work on? Do we think that the IETF _should_
actually do any standards work in this area? Or are our needs
adequately met by work already underway in other standards
organizations?

Thoughts?

Margaret
