You are right, we do. In theory such situations should not happen, however, we all know that in practice there are always cases when original (especially proprietary) protocol solutions are not thought through enough, and it is impossible to maintain backward compatibility between the software releases. That's why I am talking about *major* upgrades. Furthermore, sometimes there is a need to actually downgrade software, for instance, when one wants to add to the network some older equipment. Again, the ability to do the CP->MP->CP trick would help
