An IETF / OIF liaison relationship Was: (Re: Proposed response to OIF on OSPF ENNI)
All,
the liaison relationship between IETF and other organizations
are not decided by the IETF working groups, but the IAB.
Taking my IAB hat of, (the IAB have not had time to discuss
this), speaking for myself only.
In the case of OIF IAB have discussed a liaison reltionship
few times (e.g. April 17 2006) over the last two years. We have
seen no conclusive evidence that IETF will have any clear
benefits from a liaison relationship with the OIF.
Nevertheless, the IAB also said that we are willing to consider
such a relationship given that we have a mutual agreement on the
conditions regarding a liaison relationship.
My personal interpretation is that it would require at least
two very clear statements from the OIF:
- OIF will not extend, change or updated any IETF protocol without
prior consultations with the IETF
- if the OIF after such consultations see needs for such extensions,
changes or updates, the OIF will bring requirements to the IETF
according to the (G)MPLS change process.
We have tried communicated this to the OIF leadership through private
channels, but have not found anyone prepared to discuss.
If this channel brings the message through more clearly we still
hope for a more constructive discussion.
