NAME OF I-D:
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-awduche-mpls-te-optical-03.txt
SUMMARY:
This document describes an approach to the design of control planes
for optical transport networks, which is based on the Multiprotocol
Label Switching (MPLS) traffic engineering control plane model.
RELATED DOCUMENTS:
The GMPLS and IPO activities within the IETF were motivated by this
draft. As such, all of the GMPLS and IPO drafts are related to it.
Compete: None.
WHERE DOES IT FIT IN THE PICTURE OF THE SUB-IP WORK:
It is best to published this draft as an independent informational
RFC.
WHY IS IT TARGETED AT THIS WG
We would prefer to see this document published as an independent
informational RFC.
JUSTIFICATION
This draft was first submitted to the IETF in 1999. It has historical
significance, being the first IETF draft to clearly articulate and
rationalize
the use of IP control plane protocols within optical networks. Along
the
way, it laid out the architectural foundations which has been followed
by subsequent IETF efforts in this area.
