[idn] IDN Patent

In the process of reviewing potential requirements and looking towards
implementations for IDN, we did a bit of research at .NU to see what kinds
of IP exists in the IDN space. One significant one we turned up is
registered at the IPO and patents the concept of using ASCII encoding to
represent the UNICODE set in the DNS and on the wire. Taken out by a person
in Australia, dated Oct. 97 and registered Oct 98 with WIPO (WO 99/19814).

Anyone familiar with this patent, or know of any others that might
constrain development of standards for IDN?
