Phil,

I think your note covers a lot of ground. I would just like to reinforce two points in this discussion:

1. The folks at LISA told us that they recognize that vendors differentiate themselves through their CLIs, and that this was a good thing. That relates to your point that being able to rapidly express new features.

2. On elements v. attributes, what leaves a lot of people nervous is the readability of the XML. Now, one might say that someone should never have to read XML without a style sheet, but realistically speaking people are going to have to not only write this stuff, but read and debug this stuff. I think the challenge here is to strike a good balance. This is also applicable to use of SOAP, WSDL, etc.
