I am confused.

Defining a standard transmission schema for moving (more or less opaque)
config information (whether XML or Sanskrit) over SSHv2 seems pretty useful
and already has operator interest and some operator experimentation. That
is my understanding of one of the two items that Margaret enumerated. (It
also happens to be the one I am interested in.)

So I don't see how justifying XML is applicable to that issue.
I am not following you all's reasoning here that I need to justify XML
when the transmission schema ought to be essentially independent of
choice of syntax.

I think I do understand why one would need to justify XML in the
case of proposed work that actually would involve standardising all
or part of an XML schema.
