pointer to some running code
Juniper's XML config stuff is pretty thoroughly documented at:

I don't work for Juniper, but I do know that a number of operators
are experimenting with using the above Juniper stuff in lieu of the
current (tcl + expect + CLI + SSH) approach. I'm told of other
equipment vendors who are also doing stuff in this space, but
I don't know of any others with as much documentation publicly
available online.
IMHO, folks interested in this BOF ought to try to get at least
passing familiarity with what the Juniper stuff does and doesn't do.
One might or might not like their design and implementation choices,
but either way the familiarity would provide a common context for the
BOF conversation.
