I saw this a bit late at NANOG and was debating how to respond to the approach Sam suggested. And never replied, myself. I saw no other replies, and it is now the middle of "next week". Did I miss the replies? Is a conference call
still a good idea?

No, there haven't yet been replies.

Adrian has been busy becoming a grandfather (relative to my
experience, a case of "young kids having grand-babies"). He
is just back from this exhausting but successful experience.

I read Sam's proposal, but don't know how to respond and
thus was waiting to give Adrian time to look at it in detail.
