RFC2390 (nee RFC1293) employed by a very large part of the commercial
world for the last decade.

The point of my message is that "a layer violation" is not one of the
Ten Commandments nor part of Hammurabi's code.  It's simply an
engineering caveat of "beyond here, there be dragons".  One needs to
be very careful, but one needs also to be practical and cost
effective.
