The text of RFC 2955 seems to assume that implementations of FR/ATM service interworking are based on ATM edge equipment and not switch gear. In specific, when one is implementing FRF.8 on an ATM switch, should the ATM ifIndex, VPI, and VCI of the frAtmIwfCrossConnection Table be that of the proprietary virtual interface or those of the physical interface? Furthermore, should the ifType be that of ATM (37), AAL5 (49) or atmVciEndPt (194)?
Do any of the current RFC's or drafts represent FRF.5 IWFs? We plan to support both RFC 2954 and RFC 2955. My study of RFC 2955 has led me to believe that it only addresses Service IWF (FRF.8). Does RFC 2955 address Network IWF (FRF.5) in a subtle way that I may have missed? Are there other RFC's or drafts that address FRF.5? If FRF.5 is not represented in any current RFC's or drafts, do you have any other recommendations for FRF.5 support in relation to RFC 2954 and RFC 2955?
Thank you for your time and consideration,
