Indeed.
Many vendors simply prefer to hide their ignorance
(or sustain a bias?) by using/inventing something
else and calling it a better way to manage.
If vendors did implement following a standard
then it would be possible to point out a given product's
implementation deviances:
(example: http://www.macfaden.com/ietf/bridge-test-results.txt)
....most management I know prefers to avoid such problems
at the expense of the operators.
