PPVPN draft-malis-sonet-ces-mpls-04.txt

NAME OF I-D:

http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-malis-sonet-ces-mpls-04.txt

SUMMARY

The original IP-based "Virtual Private Network" was a set of
customer-premise IP routers interconnected by TDM private lines leased from
service providers. This method of creating an IP VPN is still widely in
use. This document allows the emulation of this style of VPN over an IP
backbone, when using the procedures described in
draft-martini-l2circuit-trans-mpls-05.txt, and is a logical extension of
the L2VPN work in the PPVPN working group.

A TDM encapsulation which is independent of the tunneling methodology is
defined, and the way in which this is further encapsulated inside an MPLS
frame is defined.

applies to the circuit emulation work in the pwe3 working group.

WHY IS IT TARGETED AT THIS WG

This was targeted to the PPVPN WG because it applies to one of the work
items called out in the PPVPN WG charter, L2VPNs.

JUSTIFICATION

This draft directly supports one of the work items in the PPVPN WG charter,
L2VPNs.
