IPO draft-prs-optical-routing-01.txt

NAME OF I-D:

  http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-prs-optical-routing-01.txt
  http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-prs-optical-routing-01.ps

SUMMARY

The objective of this draft is to describe mechanisms for exchanging
routing
information between IP clients and optical networks, and between optical
sub-networks.
Such information exchange would allow automated establishment of end-to-end
paths in
an optical network comprising of multiple sub-networks. Furthermore, it
would
allow optical network clients, specifically IP routers, to discover their
remote
peers dynamically. Determination of reachability could be the first step in

dynamic provisioning of optical paths using signaling.

This draft has an architectural flavor and the aim is to be a framework or
reference for specific protocol work.

WHERE DOES IT FIT IN THE PICTURE OF THE SUB-IP WORK

This draft belongs in the IPO, as it describes various options
for routing at an architectural level. Specific mechanisms may
be developed in other groups such as CCAMP.

WHY IS IT TARGETED AT THIS WG

  This draft addresses the following
item from the IPO WG charter:

 - Document the applicability of IP-based protocols for the controlled
dissemination of optical network topology, metric, and constraint
   information.

JUSTIFICATION

Please see above for how this draft fits within the charter
  of the IPO WG.
