SUMMARY
Advances in the Optical Layer control plane are critical to ensure
that the tremendous amount of bandwidth generated by DWDM technology
be provided to upper layer services in a timely, reliable, and cost
effective fashion. This document describes some unique features and
requirements for the Optical Layer control plane that protocol
designers need to take into consideration. This draft was made a
design
team document and a WG document at Minneapolis. It is being merged
with
draft-banerjee-routing-impairments-00.txt to create a requirements
document for the WG.

WHERE DOES IT FIT IN THE PICTURE OF THE SUB-IP WORK
Describes specific characteristics of optical technology and the
requirements they
place on routing (path selection).
WHY IS IT TARGETED AT THIS WORKING GROUP
The material is specific to optical networks. It identifies and
documents the
characteristics of the optical transport network that are important for
selecting paths for optical channels, which is a work area for the IPO
WG.
JUSTIFICATION
The material covered is directly aimed at establishing a framework and
requirements for
routing in an optical network.
