Medicine, Morals, and Money

Trained in medicine at McMaster University, the University of Toronto, and Harvard University Dr. Olivieri has received continuous funding over the past 25 years for research in disorders of hemoglobin, sickle cell disease and thalassemia. The author of over 200 scientific papers, reviews and book chapters, Dr. Olivieri is a founding member of Doctors for Research Integrity, an organization dedicated to scientific integrity and to the protection of patients participating in clinical research. Dr. Olivieri has received, among other honours, The Callaway Award for Civic Courage from the Nader Foundation; The Milner Memorial Award from the Canadian Association of University Teachers; the Scientific Freedom and Responsibility Award from the American Association for the Advancement of Science; and several honorary degrees.
